The wonderful town of Rochefort

Today could have be done also by train…lots of  motorways and industrial zones.
Of course there was the nice city of La Rochelle – but I had to look for food and a dentist – and  this costed a lot of time.

After that I went to the absolute highlight – Rochefort!
The ancient town is outstanding and we went for dinner in an Indian restaurant with delicious food. Also the camping municipal (5,50 €) is perfect and I’m sitting now with free Wi-Fi in front of the bar with evening-animation.

The wonderful ancient town is worth a second visit – especially the ship wich is now rebuilt according to plans from the 17th century – L’Hermine. It will roll out for the first time in 2014!

Preparations Part one…600 km along the atlantic coast

Finally I´ve fixed the route for Part one – the highlights for the first 600 km are found out and I´ve planned the track on http://www.bikemap.net.

I´ll start in St. Brevin-les-pins next to St. Nazaire/Loire and will cycle along the wonderful coast down to Royan, passing by the Ile de Noirmoutier and the Ile de Ré to La Rochelle.

In Royan I´m going to take the ferry and continue my ride along the beach to Cap Ferret exploring the Bassin d´Arcachon with its wonderful wildlife. The final destination for this part will be the famous “Dune du Pilat”, where I´m going to stay on the campingsite.

After this first part I will take to train to Bordeaux and explore this outstanding city for 1 or 2 days…to be continued

 And here is the track…
