The wonderful town of Rochefort

Today could have be done also by train…lots of  motorways and industrial zones.
Of course there was the nice city of La Rochelle – but I had to look for food and a dentist – and  this costed a lot of time.

After that I went to the absolute highlight – Rochefort!
The ancient town is outstanding and we went for dinner in an Indian restaurant with delicious food. Also the camping municipal (5,50 €) is perfect and I’m sitting now with free Wi-Fi in front of the bar with evening-animation.

The wonderful ancient town is worth a second visit – especially the ship wich is now rebuilt according to plans from the 17th century – L’Hermine. It will roll out for the first time in 2014!

So tomorrow I’m going to cross to.river and head to Royan where I have to take the ferry and than cycling through the woods. M.

From dune to canal Lycon

Todays ride was interesting as the 98 km took us from the sandy beach in Les Sables d’Olonne to the small town of Marlans where we find an outstanding Chambres d’Hotes. And we had the wonderful option of participating in a tables d’Hotes – and everything was organic!

For Tine Last 5 km we needed about an hour because the international long-distance trail look like the following picture. What if it had been raining…like in Germany.

Tomorrow we are approaching L Rochelle and hopefully the weather and the track will be fine. M.

A kind of britanny

Today was again a very sunny and wonderful cycling-day – which ended up in a delicious dinner directly on the beach with Francis from Paris who also rides a recumbentbike – but it’s a trike.

The day started with my first ‘camping-breakfast’ and I started a little bit late at 09:30 h because of a chat with a german camping family.

The track leaded me through the woods wich was in the beginning very fine – but further on it took me so much energy because of the surface and the ups and downs so I decided to take the nearby road.

Shortly after that I approached a very touristy town – not very nice.

But than the track took me to some memories of last year – Brittany.
This marvelous coastline with its sandy beaches reminded me of this part of the country.

Having a break Francis with his.recumbent etrike arrived and we did the rest of the daytrip which ended up in Les Sables, a nice town with old.and new houses.
Interesting that from this city there is a sailingboat race every year around the world starting in november.

So today again like yesterday I’m sitting on the beach writing, the sun has just go down and I’ll find my way to the tent.

What a wonderful first cycling-day

Could you imagine a better situation than sitting after the sundown on a beach after having a delicious dinner and your tent is already built up? Me not!

The first 80 km of this journey were sunny, nearly flat and we’ve seen some really nice villages.
Travelling with a woman from New Zealand, having met a german guy who wrote some travelbooks for Dumont and finally Francis from Paris who is on his pilgrim’s way to Spain with an recumbentbike-ebike from up (Scorpion)
Crossing the street to the Ile de Noirmontier before the lowtide was a special thing because that’s the ancient way to reach the island.

The camping site is a little bit sleepy, only one restaurant was open – but it’s already warm and I’ve got a kind of sunburn…

I found out that the river Loire must be the border of the sun – because last year when I’ve been travelling through Brittany the weather was the other way round – but this is only the first day…

Tunesian food in St. Brevin-les-Pins

Unbelivable – I’m sitting in a nice marocean Restaurant in my destination city – the Gite is really nice, next to the sandy beach.

Even as it is half past nine the sun is shining and I had a wonderful walk along the beach…
Like in 2010 when I started long-distance rides it’s warm. But – as the woman from my Gite told me – this is the first sunny day since over two weeks.

So now I’m going to enjoy my icecream and walk back to my room – I think, I will have a really good sleep after such a perfect journey… Michael
